Royal Entertainment Zone
The architecture of Udaipur and entire Mewar is unique. The beautiful palaces and the buildings meant for the royal house were given different shapes and forms throughout the history. Every ruler made his addition to the architectural heritage. Saheliyon ki Bari was the addition made by Rana Sangram Singh II who ruled from 1710 to 1734. The garden was built as a recreational spot for Queen and her maids. Saheliyon ki Bari is near to Lake Fateh Sagar. Previously there were a lot of different gardens around the beautiful Fateh Sagar which were later merged into one garden which was named as Saheliyon ki Bari. It is an architectural gem since it incorporates the Mughal architecture with the Rajputana architecture. This fusion results into an architectural masterpiece. Some of the Mughal architectural features in Saheliyon ki Bari are: Multi-foliated arch with thirteen foliation, Arch netting and Carvings of wine bottles executed on the stucco as a surface decoration. Rana Sangram Singh II also incorporated the four-quartered garden (chaharbagh) in Saheliyon ki Bari which was a pleasure garden which completed the adoption of Mughal layout of structures developed under the Mughal Emperor Shahjahan. Along with the Rajputana and the Mughal influence the place also has a colonial influence as well. Maharana Bhopal Singh made new additions to the garden in the form of rain fountains which were imported from Britain. You will find beautiful marble sculptures of birds and elephants. There is also a museum and a beautiful Lotus Pool. With the luscious green gardens, the architecture, sculptures, the lotus pool and the fountains the place looks majestic.
