Lake Fateh Sagar

When you Google Udaipur the first thing you will probably see is the beautiful Fateh Sagar lake. It is one of the most well known lakes and there is no need to say that you must visit it. This majestic lake is iconic and is also known as the Queen’s Necklace of Udaipur.
It was first constructed under the regime of Maharana Jai Singh. The lake served as a water reservoir. However, the construction was weakened due to heavy rains and the lake was destroyed. Later, Maharana Fateh Singh got it reconstructed after 200 years of the original construction. To mark the visit of Duke of Connaught, son of Queen Victoria, the newly constructed dam on the lake was named Connaught Bund.

The Architectural and Natural Wonder

The Fateh Sagar, named after Maharana Fateh Singh of Udaipur and Mewar, is the second largest lake in Udaipur famous for its majestic views. It is surrounded by the Aravali ranges. The lake gets water from various lakes & ponds in and around the city namely Lake Picchola, Badi Lake and Madar. It is the major source of drinking water for the people of Udaipur.

There is a Pal or a Drive around the lake which makes it accessible to the people. It is perfect for morning and evening walks, jogging, cycling or for simply enjoying the view. It is similar to the Marine Drive of Mumbai. By evening there is a huge crowd who reaches the place to unwind. There is a chowapty as well which serves delicious street food. One can enjoy delicious & mouth watering snacks like Pav Bhaji, Bhel Puri, Pani Puri, Sandwich etc. along with Kulhad Coffee.
